Parrots are awesome pets. By Naurius LEU

This is my parrot Pupa. Sadly not many people these days keep parrots as pets. Some people think that parrots make horrible pets, some have heard bad myths about parrots and think that they are true or that they are expensive. These are the reasons why there aren’t many parrot keepers. But in fact parrots are awesome!!!!!! And here are some reasons WHY!!!!

  • There are many species of parrots. Different species have physical and mental differences. Some are small, some are big. Some parrots can only have one color, others can have two or even more colors. So you can pick and choose which one you like more. Parrots are smart animals. As we know some parrots can learn to speak, but many bird species cant. But that doesn’t mean that they aren’t intelligent. A lot of parrots can learn tricks really easily. Like Budgies or Parakeet, Cockatiels. Parrots are social animals. Parrots are flock animals, which means that they live in groups. My parrot keeps staying close by. Sometimes when I don’t pay attention to her, she comes on my computer and tries to get some attention. She even eats food when I eat something.
  • Parrots can live for a long time. Some parrot species can live 100 years some can live 25 years, others 15 years. It only depends on the species.

Hope these reasons change your mind about parrots and maybe one day you will too get a parrot.

I like the parrots, but I always thought that they were very noisy, very much like to mess up the environment because parrots are species of birds, and every day they are throwing something out through their cage. My aunt’s parrot usually sleeps at night and does not allow us to sleep. But now I have changed my opinion, and I realized that not all parrots are like my aunt’s

Hello sorry for not replying sooner. I would say it depends on the cat and how it behaves in your house. It’s all about the introduction. How I would do it, I would keep my parrot in a separate room where he/she could be safe and would adapt to the environment. After a week or two, I would let the cat see the parrot when it is in a cage, but I would still watch the cat just in case. Let the cat sometimes sniff the parrot when the parrot is in a cage. After some months the cat shouldn’t attack the parrot. But if you want to be sure that the parrot would be more or less safe I would get a bigger parrot like a Macaw or African grey parrot. 🙂

I’d love having a parrot at home, but aren’t they very loud? What’s the most difficult part of raising this kind of pet for you?:)

Well it depends on the parrot. If you are lucky you might get a silent parrot, but it mostly depends on the species. For example budgies are very noisy, but there ‘singing’ could be pleasant for some people. The more silent parrots I would say are Senegal parrots, female Indian ringneck parrots because males are more active and more noise. The most difficult part of raising a parrot is that they like to chew on things. So you need to watch your parrot if you let it out of its cage.

Great article, thx:) I love animals and I’d like to own a parrot, but our family has a cat, so maybe that;s not a very good idea after all..unless there are the species of parrots that could get along with cats?
