A Summer Trip

This summer I had a long, beautiful and exiting travel around seven states of the USA. They were California, Arizona, Utah, Nevada, Idaho, Washington and Oregon. I love all of them because of their wonderful landscapes which are never the same. I had an opportunity to stand on the native Indian tribe lands, admire majestic views of the nature and explore large cities. I have visited a lot of National Parks. So now I want to tell you about my trip.

The trip started in San Francisco, California where I got into the car and went down on the Pacific coast of California. As we traveled along the Pacific Ocean, we passed Santa Cruz, Monterey, San Luis Obispo cities. Then, being close to the wall of Mexico, we have driven on the Historic Route 66 which was created in 1926. This road is a 2,448 mile journey to the heart of America which extends through eight states of the USA. It became the principal east-west artery. U.S Highway 66 was proclaimed as a “Mother Road”. By 1984 Interstate 40 was complete and the small communities along route 66 were bypassed. Later that route was forgotten because of the Highway 40 which was the simpler and faster way to people to reach east and west.

#gallery-1 { margin: auto; } #gallery-1 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-1 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-1 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

We have reached Arizona through the Mojave Desert and Colorado River. Sedona city in Arizona is surrounded with large red rocks. Sunsets and sunrises are the most majestic there. We have visited the Palatki Indian tribe home where they lived on the red canyons about 1000 years ago. We saw a lot of their paintings and buildings on the red walls. Canyons are made of water, wind and sun millions years ago. It was very interesting to finally see and touch these giants.

#gallery-2 { margin: auto; } #gallery-2 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-2 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-2 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

Next in our plans was the Grand Canyon National Park. The Grand Canyon of Arizona was discovered in 1540. It has area of over 1.900 square miles and contains 277 miles of the Colorado River which is (1400 miles or 2253 km long). The Grand Canyon is probably the world’s most spectacular example of the power of erosion-a chasm 277 miles long and up to 18 miles wide. The canyon bottom is 730 meters above the sea level. Average depth about one mile (1,6km). The Canyon is cut into a rounded mountain, called the Kaibab Plateau. As the rock walls break down, the chasm gradually widens. Scientists estimate that it has taken from three to six million years to cut the Grand Canyon. The work is by no ways finished. The powerful forces of the rushing river, of rain, snow, heat, frost and wind are still sculpting the fantastic shapes of precipitous bluffs and towering buttes. Many hundred small ruins of ancient Indian pueblos have been discovered in the canyon and on the rims. Five Indian tribes live in the region today: the Hopi, Navajo, Havasupai, Paiute and Hualapai. There are about 70 species of mammals there, 250 species of birds, 25 reptiles and 5 amphibians species. We saw a lot of deer, lizards, ground squirrels, a coyote, and colorful birds (there are a lot of rare California Condors which are the largest birds in the world).

#gallery-3 { margin: auto; } #gallery-3 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-3 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-3 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

Next stop was Lake Powell and Horseshoe Bend in Utah.

#gallery-4 { margin: auto; } #gallery-4 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-4 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-4 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

Then we reached the Antelope Canyon which is an underground canyon. It is practically in a desert where the heat is more than 40C. Of course in the underground it’s about 25C. We have had a guided tour. Our guide was a Navajo Indian girl. It was one of my favorite stops on the trip. Antelope Canyon is a favorite subject of photographers.

#gallery-5 { margin: auto; } #gallery-5 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-5 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-5 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

Next: Monument Valley National Park. A lot of westerns were created here between large red rock monuments.

#gallery-6 { margin: auto; } #gallery-6 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-6 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-6 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

Zion National Park.

#gallery-7 { margin: auto; } #gallery-7 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-7 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-7 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

Voted one of the best places to hike in America, enchanting Zion shows off the best of nature’s power and delicate beauty. The red and white walls of Navajo sandstone from the Jurassic Era rise 2,000 feet (609 meters) to the sky. There are a lot of fantastic rock formations, waterfalls, nature arches and other marvels.

Bryce Canyon National Park.

#gallery-8 { margin: auto; } #gallery-8 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-8 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-8 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

No place on earth looks like Bryce Canyon. It is more similar to Mars. Among the deeply carved ravines of Bryce Canyon are countless ridges, or fins, eroded into bizarre flame-colored towers as hoodoos. The Paiute Indians described them as “red rocks standing like the men they were before Coyote (Indian God Sinawava) punished them for their bad deeds”.

Arches National Park is the best place to see nature’s created natural arches.

#gallery-9 { margin: auto; } #gallery-9 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-9 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-9 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

Then we drive through Capital Reef National Park where we saw a lot of petroglyphs, White Canyon National Park, Natural Bridges National Monument, and Canyonlands National Park. That was the last National Park in our trip, but we still had a long trip to Washington (not the D.C).

We have reached the Capital of Utah – Salt Lake City. It got the name from the salt lake which is located near city. After we left the city we stopped in the salt desert which is so large that we couldn’t even see the end of it. That desert is famous for Automobile Speed and Endurance Records. The highest speed recorded there was 800 miles per hour (1287 km/h)!

We have driven through Nevada and Idaho to reach Washington State. We have driven 5,500 miles (8,851 kilometers) total. 😉

Questions:

  1. Which Canyon looks more like Mars than Earth?
  2. What is the highest car speed (km) recorded in the Salt Desert?
  3. Which National Park is voted one of the best places to hike in the United States?

#gallery-10 { margin: auto; } #gallery-10 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-10 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-10 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

A review of Carrie by Julija Viginda Minauskaitė

Some time ago, I watched Carrie on my computer. It is a supernatural horror film. It was written by Stephen King. The film stars are Chloë Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore.

It is the story about one shy teenage girl named Carrie White. At home Carrie is emotionally and physically abused by her very religious mother, Margaret White. Her mother forces her to pray everyday for her sins or life. Carrie is bullied at school by every student. One day her first menstruation cycle started in the girls shower. All of her classmates started laughing at her and started throwing tampons. When Carrie realized she was bleeding she had no clue what was going on. Shortly after that, Carrie discovered that she has telekinesis. She used her ability to stop her mother‘s abuse and bullying. Then the popular girl Sue felt bad for her and asked her boyfriend to ask Carrie for prom. Carrie agrees, but her bully Chris and her boyfriend Bill has an evil prank with her friends to seek revenge for Carrie with tragic results.

I really liked the story, because it was a horror film, although it was a little bit romantic. However the best thing was acting, it was excellent. I particularly liked Chloë Grace Moretz, who played Carrie White.

In my opinion, this is a spectacular and gripping film, although it was a bit violent. Overall, it was great! I recommend watching it 😉

Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. By Vėjas and Gerda 5a

Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron is a very heart warming story about a horse

who gets kidnapped by evil men and he tries to escape and go back to his family. The visuals in this movie are very great, beautiful andrealistic. The movie is really great and it reminds us that we have freedom and we should be happy about it. We think that the movie is very beautiful and it’s a good story told plus the music and acting are great. The movie was released in 2002 by “Dream Works Animation“. Here are some of the voice actors: Matt Damon as spirit, James Cromwell as the Colonel, Daniel Studi as Little Creek. The ending is happy so we don‘t have to cry. Did you like the movie? Write your opinion. What does the animation teach us? 😳

A Review of Middle School: the Worst Years of My Life. By Tomas 7B

About a couple of days ago I watched: ‘Middle School: the Worst Years of My Life’ on my computer. It’s an animated comedy. The movie stars are Griffin Cluck aka (Rafe Khatchadorian) and Thomas Barbusca aka (Leo).

It’s a story about two brothers – Rafe and Leo (Leo is dead but Rafe imagines him as his best friend). Rafe has a notebook in which he draws everything that he imagines. Rafe was kicked out of couple of school’s due to his bad behavior and was told that if he gets kicked out of one more school he will never be able to go to any other public school. When he came to the new school he noticed that it was very strict (which didn’t really matter at the time) but as time goes by things start to get worse. He makes a huge mistake by drawing in his notebook when he really should have not been. The principle sees that he is drawing ant takes away his notebook and throws it into acid! And as Rafe being Rafe, he decides to break every single rule in the school. And so the journey BEGAN!

The characters of Rafe and Leo are interesting because if they have a goal they will achieve it at any cost. Also Rafe doesn’t have any problems making new friends.

In my opinion this is a gripping movie although it’s a comedy. The special effects are absolutely sensational. However, the best thing is acting. Overall it’s a very enjoyable movie.

Vienožinskio Art School. By Ignas Naruševičius 8c

About

Justino Vienožinskio art school is located in Konarskio street 37. You can learn a lot about art and get drawing experience. Usually you have to stay and learn in that school for four years. There are lessons like painting, drawing, sculpture, art history, etc. At the end of fourth trimester we have the last work to do – The diploma work. After that school gives a diploma and the work is finished! It’s possible to attend the art school for more years if art is very special in your life and you want to link it to your future.

The history lesson

We call it the most boring lesson in the school because sitting for two hours in one place and listening to that history simply has no motion. Well sometimes our teacher shows us the modern art or something more interesting than primitive creations. At the end of the lesson teacher gives us test papers. Two weeks later we get our ratings, and thanks to God we only have two lessons a month 😈 . But I still think I can use the history in my future life.

Sculpture lesson

One of the most interesting lessons is the sculpture. The only bad thing is sculpture teacher because he’s very serious and no fun at all. So you would ask „Why do I think it’s the most interesting lesson?“. I like it because sometimes we just need to use our imagination to create something let’s say a sculpture. And usually teacher places ,for example, a scull model and gives us some clay. Then we just need to create a same sized skull, and that’s it.

Painting lesson

We usually paint Natiurmorts (Random junk like old radios or useless stuff). The hardest thing is the shape of the stuff and the shadows. They should look exactly like they are. And after all that hard work we also get dirty! So we need to clean everything, that’s why I don’t like painting that much.

Graphics lesson

This lesson requires thoroughness because cutting on the metal plates with a needle isn’t very easy. We make thousands of scratches just to fill up the background. Then we use poison and chemicals that make the plates shiny. After using those liquids we put the plates under the press and get a stamp. It’s hard work but you get a beautiful creation.

Summer practice

The thing I hate the most. Who the hell wants to attend the art school during summer???!!! Having only one week per summer but its so annoying! We have to sit near well known objects in the old town and paint or draw them, while the sun is shining and all we really want is to go swimming and relax. But there are good sides: you can meet friends and talk about something with them or just skip the lesson whenever you want. 🙄

A short review of “Lorax” and some suggestions for good pranks. By Matas Dovydenas 6c

BTW I liked the book more 😉

WARNING

Pranks should be done at your own risk, I do not answer for any health problems that may happen. Best Christmas pranks of mine!

Frozen

This is a good laugh prank because it will not make people you prank angry!

You have to make a cereal in a bowl with milk. Then put it in the freezer with a spoon. That’s it!

Wrapper

Milk, milk, milk and more milk!

It’s simple just put cookies everywhere with some milk in plastic cups.

Parrots are awesome pets. By Naurius LEU

This is my parrot Pupa. Sadly not many people these days keep parrots as pets. Some people think that parrots make horrible pets, some have heard bad myths about parrots and think that they are true or that they are expensive. These are the reasons why there aren’t many parrot keepers. But in fact parrots are awesome!!!!!! And here are some reasons WHY!!!!

  • Parrots are social animals. Parrots are flock animals, which means that they live in groups. My parrot keeps staying close by. Sometimes when I don’t pay attention to her, she comes on my computer and tries to get some attention. She even eats food when I eat something.
  • Parrots can live for a long time. Some parrot species can live 100 years some can live 25 years, others 15 years. It only depends on the species.

Hope these reasons change your mind about parrots and maybe one day you will too get a parrot.

7 fun ways to spend a rainy day by Agnė/LEU student

RAINY SUMMER?

IT IS NOT THE END OF THE WORLD

7 fun ways to spend a rainy day

COOKING

You can make yourself happy very easy when you are upset and bored because of rain. You just have to go to the kitchen and make some tasty food, because we all know that good food is the basis of true happiness.

 Films

Almost everyone likes to watch television, but every person has a different taste in movies. So, the best decision would be to invite your best friends to your house and have a film evening.

   POETRY

Rain is great for you if you are a poet. Look at the rain outside, dark vision of the outside world.. Then listen how drops of the rain are falling on the roof..It is a great relaxation for those who can sit down with a pen and paper and write amazing poems.

Photography

People usually do not value wonderful and picturesque nature..But if you have a decent camera (these days, your phone could be a camera!) a rainy day is ideal time to enjoy nature and get some beautiful pictures!

BATH

What can be better if you can fix up a bubble bath and to lie cozy in the bath. You can be sure that it is going to be actually exciting!

Books

If one cannot enjoy reading a book over and over again, there is no use in reading it at all. –Oscar Wilde books improve our life and give us knowledge. Rainy days are great to read books in the genre of romance or drama.

  BOARD GAMES

Everyone should play more board games because it is very funny not only for children. You can play games like “Monopoly “with your friends and even family. Board games improve relations and could be an exercise for the mind.

Enjoy rainy days!

Agnė 🙂

There are lots of places that aren‘t accessible to people with disabilities. But I want to tell You about places that are accessible and comfortable to people that are using wheelchairs. One such place is Monciškės.

Monciškės is a settlement located between Palanga and Šventoji. In Monciškės people with disability can enjoy their holiday when they are near Baltic Sea.

What is so special about Monciškės? All houses, cafes, facilities and beach are accessible and adapted to the needs of wheelchair users.

Monciškės beach is always full and this is not surprising because this beach is comfortable to everyone including people with bikes, families with small children and elderly people.

A trip to Washington State

OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK

Waves boom along wilderness beaches and mix with snow-fed rivers. Ancient trees shelter wildlife. Rugged peaks embrace glaciers and sub-alpine meadows. Coast, forest, and mountain ecosystems combine to create this spectacular wilderness park.

A view to Seattle from a ferry

The Olympic Peninsula is home to eight American Indian tribes that developed complex hunter-gatherer societies and continue to keep their traditions alive. European explorers who ventured here in the late 1700s heralded the way for homesteaders. The Olympics were set aside as a national monument in 1909 and further protected as Olympic National Park in 1938. Today the park is internationally recognized as a Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Site, testimony to its rich resources.

Olympic National Park protects the largest old-growth forest in the Pacific North-West. Its unique character begins with ancient trees that took root 200 to 1,000 years ago. Elks and deer. They are the most popular animals in Washington State. After travel to Sequim we came back to Seattle.

#gallery-12 { margin: auto; } #gallery-12 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-12 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-12 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

We were visiting Lithuanian graves in Roslyn city. A lot of Lithuanians were working in mining. They immigrated to United States in the beginning of the 20th century. We were going to a lot of trails. And traveling around Seattle for two weeks.

#gallery-13 { margin: auto; } #gallery-13 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-13 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-13 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

And our last trip was to the east of Washington.

EAST WASHINGTON

Our hotel was in Winthrop city. It is a small town with old houses.

We saw a lot of beautiful views there. The climate there is very interesting: in the West Washington, Summers are not very hot and winters are not very cold. And in the East Washington summers are hot and winters – cold.

#gallery-14 { margin: auto; } #gallery-14 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-14 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-14 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

We were in America for three weeks and then came back to Lithuania.

How is Life in Elektrėnai??? by Evita

Elektrenai is one of the newest towns of Lithuania. Having been established during the Soviet times as the living space for workers of the nearby power plant. Many years ago the territory was covered by remote lakes and fields. But today we have a huge water gathering lagoon, which was created in order to cool down the Elektrenai Power Plant. The city is located between two largest cities – Vilnius and Kaunas, so can be a nice vacation place or even living place. People coming here tend to be educated, that is why the beach is very neat (no water rats or sunflower eaters as can be met by the famous lake of ŠILAS). Clean beach of Lagoon

stand up boarders maintain an upright stance on their boards and use a paddle to propel themselves through the water. It is not costly and especially great for girls as it helps to keep your body in tip top shape and clear your mind.

Wake-boarding in the evening time. During the winter months, when the lagoon is covered by ice, you can skate, play ice-hockey or ice fish there.

8Yrs old boy Jokubas wakeboarding

, not many cultural monuments can be visited here. One of them is a great modern architecture church. It has an interesting rectangular arch with 7 crosses, symbolizing 7th century of Christianity in Lt.

States and Finland. Last year it was possible to park your car or quadrocycle nearby the track so the view was distinct and dynamic, the speed could be “felt” easily. A very attractive place is Elektrenai Ice Palace arena, which welcomes everyone all year round. Although it is a bit too cold inside, if you compare it with Vilnius Akropolis skate rink. We even had an ice- hockey championship of youth held here this year. Unfortunately, the ice is being melt during summer time until August. Then the rink is used for various activities (for instance dart competitions). Elektrenai town itself is very clean, grass is being cut constantly. There are many paths for bicycles and skates, ramps for skaters are quite modern there. There is a nice avenue that you can come around slowly and admire the scenery of almost boundless lagoon and reservation. While walking you can visit a small bakery nearby that makes delicious and fresh pastries. My favourite one is English ring – shaped roll or hot small kibins.

Extra ordinary thing is Capitals Golf Club. The court is in a very good condition and very playable. No need to wait on court. Great service and hospitality. Children can be left here for summer camps and learn to play golf. It is costly, however. A friend of mine even took place at the competition of golf starters. An American magazine rounded the club as the best new international project of 2008 in the whole world!!! (Except the USA)

was supposed to be a grand theme park activity center with various carousels and even Americanroller-coaster!!! But today we have a very sad view – abandoned and rusted place, showing the face of Soviet Union. From the feminine side, I would like to point out that there are a few nice beauty salons. One is on the first floor of the modern 12th floor building. You can have manicure or haircut done for you, yet the queues are enormous, so the service is not that advantageous.

Strange thing is that you cannot find a place, where somebody can wash your car (I wonder how people do that? maybe they wash their cars in the lagoon? :)) There are also nice markets where you can buy fresh vegetables, meat etc.

To summarize, Elektrenai is a nice, clean and quite place. If you feel you have had enough of that calmness you can come back to Vilnius or Kaunas as it is aprox. 50 km from these cities.

Summer’s moment @ Palanga by ME.

Every year less and less people can afford Palanga 🙂 It is easier and of course cheaper to visit Turkey, Greece or other countries. But if you are patriot and love Lithuanian seaside you must challenge yourself and survive several days in Palanga including famous Basanavičius street, crowded beaches, expensive food and excellent music shows satisfying every taste 🙂

And if you are determined enough you will definitely be awarded for your effort. So some advice for those who haven’t given up yet and still love Palanga.

  1. Visit Palanga in the beginning of June -the nature is awakening this time of year and the streets are not so crowded
  2. Cycle along Basanavicius street instead of walking 🙂 You’ll feel safer and it’s easier to escape in case everything you see around is too much for you :))
  3. Have your ipod on the Beach if you don’t like loud announcements on the radio about the safety rules in the sea which are repeated every five minutes in 3 different languages 🙂
  4. Try not to eat in the local restaurants unless you are an extremely tolerant person
  5. Find your daily routine , that makes your day happier for e.g. a cup of coffee in the morning, jogging in the park, feeding wild ducks in the river, walking or cycling along the seaside in the evenings etc.

Summarizing, you can enjoy Palanga and find something nice. These are some photos that show “Life is beautiful in summer “

Coffee Culture by Viktorija Taraškevič

Coffee is an essential element for most of bleary-eyed people to start a morning, as it is very common weapon to fight constant fatigue which is a natural result of the fast life pace and busy routine.  Nowadays it became extremely frequent, for instance, to grab a cup of this comforting treat in the nearest cafe to renew your energy while rushing to do your daily duties.

Drinking coffee was not only quite recently regarded as an exotic and theatrical new drink, but also seen as a way to emulate the cosmopolitan New York lifestyles showcased in hugely popular sitcoms like ”Friends” or ”Seinfeld”.

Nonetheless, experts agree that Britain now has one of the most vibrant coffee cultures in the world, which was showcased by the 2010 World Barista Championships held in London.

Coffee is now enjoyed in the home too – a third of people have some form of coffee machine in their kitchen which is easily filled with the beans bought online. However it is prepared, it is made with an attention to detail to ensure consistency, starting with fresh quality beans.

‘Latte art is a bonus as it makes a beautifully presented cup of coffee and shows the care that has gone into making your coffee – but the taste is most important. <…> You can only ruin a good coffee,” argues Graeme Crawford, the managing director of “Papercup” in Glasgow, adding that a great coffee has a “balance of acidity, sweetness, mouth feel and aftertaste.”

Good movies, anyone? review By Adomas 7B

5. „Beetle juice“ A 1988 American horror comedy directed by Tim Burton. The plot revolves around a recently deceased young couple who become ghosts, haunting their former home, and a devious ghost named Betelgeuse (pronounced Beetlejuice) from the Netherworld tries to scare away the new inhabitants permanently. It‘s not very scary but the plot and special FX (according to when the movie was made) are pretty decent.

Fun fact: Even though the movie is called “Beetlejuice,” the character only has 17 minutes of screen time out of a 92-minute running time.

4. Alien A 1979 science-fiction horror film directed by Ridley Scott. The film’s title refers to a highly aggressive extraterrestrial creature „Xenomorph“ that stalks and kills the crew of a spaceship. This creature produces infants by bursting out of a mans chest (it is very messy). the „Xenomorph“ are very scary, and you really do not want to meet one in a dark alley. O, did I mention that they have a mouth inside a mouth, acid for blood, steel-like skin and a long pointy tail for stabbing. The special FX are perfect, awesome time watching it.

3.The shining A 1980 British-American psychological horror film produced and directed by Stanley Kubrick. The film is based on Stephen King’s 1977 novel The Shining. In the film, Jack Torrance, a writer and recovering alcoholic, takes a job as an off-season caretaker at the isolated Overlook Hotel. His young son has psychic abilities and is able to see things from the past and future, such as the ghosts who haunt the hotel. After settling in, the family is trapped in the hotel by a snowstorm, and jack become influenced by a ghostly presence, becomes insane and tries to kill his family. I was pretty scary and weirdly a bit funny. So i recommend watching it.

2.Predator A 1987 American science fiction action horror film directed by John McTiernan. It stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as the main protagonist and a leader of elite special forces team who are on a mission to rescue hostages from guerrilla territory in Central America. Kevin Peter Hall co-stars as the antagonist, a technologically advanced alien, secretly stalking and hunting the group. He has blades on his arms, cloaking devises, thermal vision, self-destruct bombs and a very ugly face (ughhh). They don‘t care about the food, they only care about the thrill of the hunt and collecting skulls as trophies. The movie was very gripping and awesome. Plus Alien and Predator had a crossover, double awesome

Fun fact: Optimus Prime (from „Transformers“) and the predator has the same. Peter Cullen, who is uncredited in Predator, provided the voice for both.

1. A nightmare on Elm street A 1984 American supernatural slasher horror film written and directed by Wes Craven, and the first film of the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise.Set in the fictional Midwestern town of Springwood, Ohio, the plot revolves around several teenagers who are stalked and killed in their dreams (and thus killed in reality) by Freddy Krueger. The teenagers are unaware of the cause of this strange phenomenon, but their parents hold a dark secret from long ago. Sorry I can’t tell you more because I will spoil everything. Freddy is horrible has a glove with blades on fingers, a stupid cowboy hat, an ugly striped sweater and a burned-out face. This movie gave me the creeps and like all old movies it was funny.

My Stomach Is Full And My Wallet Is Too By Mažena Germanovič

It’s that time again! Time to settle in for the semester and really hit the books… But don’t let food take the back burner. You need to keep yourself nourished and full ofenergy to make it through those classes, study sessions, and probably a part-time job too. I know it’s easier to just stop and grab some fast food, or how when you’re totally stressed nothing sounds better than take-out pizza, but I promise you, a home cooked meal will take you much further. So, I decided to write down my favorite recipe for college students to help those who are still working through those difficult years. What makes a recipe good for students? It needs to be easy, filling, totally tasty, good as leftovers, or a good way to squeeze in some vegetables. “One pot sausage and mushroom pasta” is a perfect example of a simple and budget friendly dish for college students. It’s so nice to just cook everything in one pot and have less to wash, especially when you don’t have a dishwasher, like me. Not to mention they’re super quick and cooking the pasta in the sauce/broth just adds so much flavor.

Let’s start from ingredients. You’ll need:

  •  2 Tbsp of olive oil
  •  2-3 Italian sausages or whatever sausages you have in your fridge
  •  2 cloves of garlic
  •  1 small onion
  •  1 pack of mushrooms
  •  1 can of crushed tomatoes
  •  a dash of salt and pepper
  •  1 tsp of dried basil (optional)
  •  1 tsp of dried oregano (optional)
  •  4 cups of vegetable broth
  •  parmesan (depends on how much
  • you like cheese)
  •  handful of fresh parsley (optional)

Let the cooking begin! First, you add the olive oil and sausages to a large pot and cook over medium heat until they are browned on the outside and firm enough to slice into rounds. Remove the sausage from the pot with tongs, slice into rounds, then return them to the pot and cook for a few minutes more, or until fully browned. While the sausage is cooking, (slice or mince ?) the garlic and (slice or dice ?) the onion (depending on how big you want your pieces). Slice the mushrooms too. Once the sausages are browned, add the crushed tomatoes, onion, garlic, mushrooms, salt, pepper, basil, and oregano to the pot. Stir to combine and to dissolve any browned bits off the bottom of the pot. Then add the vegetable broth and pasta, then stir to combine. Place a lid on the pot, turn the heat up to high, and
bring it to a rapid boil. As soon as it reaches a full boil, give it a stir, replace the lid, turn the heat down to low. Let the pot simmer on low for 15 minutes. Stir it every five minutes or so while it’s simmering. Make sure it’s simmering the whole time. If it is not, turn the heat up slightly. After 15 minutes of simmering, the pasta should be tender and most of the liquid should be absorbed. If there is still too much liquid, let it simmer without a lid for a couple more minutes. Stir in the parmesan and top with fresh chopped parsley, if desired. If you want to make it a little more special, you can try adding in some other fun ingredients like: black olives, spinach, roasted red peppers, or a splash of cream to turn it into a creamy red sauce. The sky’s the limit, so have fun!

Great weekend in Palanga by Girius

My spring holiday @ Palanga

At spring holidays, more specifically at Easter I was in Palanga. There is big eggs exhibition in Jonas Basanavičius street during the Easter period each year. There are about 10 eggs standing in the avenue and each of them is painted differently. Of course you can’t break them! Or can you?

When I’m in Palanga I love one café called “Café Banduke”. I go there every day. So I didn’t miss the chance this time. “Café Banduke” sells espresso, black coffee, latte, milk, hot milk and different cakes. Only some time ago they started to bake pizzas, but you can buy pizzas only on weekends.

#gallery-18 { margin: auto; } #gallery-18 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-18 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-18 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

“Café Banduke” is a special café, because they change their latte and milkshake every week.

This latte is called “Week’s coffee”.

“Café Banduke” isn’t only at. Basanavičiaus str. I wish you to meet @ one of “Café Banduke” and see next year’s eggs exhibition!

Special Agent TeA(cher) – Educational adventures in Heidelberg

“It’s not about education – it’s about the adventure!”

  „I have never been on a plane before” – said TeA to himself. However, the take of did not seem to scare him! In fact he found himself very excited! He was on his way to a top secret destination – Heidelberg Theodor-Heuss-Realschule – one of the most prestigious schools in Heidelberg. He was specifically chosen for this mission by his authority at the LEUS (the name of the organization is classified*).

IMG_0362

His first stop before changing transport (to shake off anyone that might try to follow) was Mannheim. Not much surprised him there, for it was not the first time he had visited Germany, and this city seemed just like any other. Heidelberg was a different story altogether.

The high hills surrounding the city vexed him, calling like only the best kind of adventures do.

#gallery-19 { margin: auto; } #gallery-19 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-19 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-19 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

IMG_0016

The old town was full of wonders ready to be discovered. The school was full of knowledge and experiences so eagerly awaited. The very first day he made a promise to himself – to climb one of the high hills of Heidelberg. But his mission always came first for agent TeA. He spent 10 days studying the schools life, learning the schedule, observing lessons. He found out that German kids are mostly learning the same stuff as Lithuanians. They have math, and English, and even home economics (you know, the one you cook and make the table all proper).

IMG_0324

The infiltration was so successful that agent TeA even made a project with the students of Theodor-Heuss-Realschule about the power of tolerance, and got invited to see the city with the students. Having earned their trust he also started to see that his new friends are working a lot more than the students of Lithuania. The lessons start at 7.45 am. and end around 3 pm. For agent TeA that was a long time and his concentration was beginning to waver. Only the thought, of how important the mission was, kept him going.

IMG_0221

  The lessons and went on, as they usually do, one following the other. Agent TeA observed different methods and approaches used by the teachers in their lessons partly wandering how high the hill opposite to the beautiful castle of Heidelberg was. He met with students and teachers of the University of Heidelberg and was pleasantly surprised to find out that they have spent at least a little time in Lithuania. With some he even managed to speak about the adventure he had been planning from the moment he had set foot in Heidelberg. One student, Michael, gave some very useful information and within the very first two days the adventure was planned! But before TeA could set off on his epic journey, a very special event had to be held. He and his five, highly trained, special op’s agents met and had the honor to present their country on the day of the Reclamation of Independence, March the 11th. The students were very interested to learn about Lithuania, many thought about visiting this newly discovered land during their summer vacation.

IMG_0146

After this very fun, and interactive presentation, agent TeA set out to meet his challenge – the very high hill of Heidelberg. Three times he stopped thinking that maybe this hill is stronger than him, maybe he should turn back. While resting he thought about the students he had met, and what they had learned together. Having gained strength from these happy thoughts he soldered on. An hour it took him to reach the very top. There he found the ruins of a monastery and a watchtower. Having taken a bundle of beautiful pictures he began his descent down the hill. It took another hour. Funny enough he was even more energetic upon returning!

IMG_0175

All in all, it was not the beautiful old town or fantastic new friends that caught the eye of agent TeA. It were the students he had met, and lessons he had seen and the hill he had claimed by his strength alone.

Would you like to know what was agent TeA’s mission in Heidelberg? I bet you would – it’s classified**.

*- just kidding, it’s not; it’s Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences.
** – just kidding, it’s not – he was there to do exactly what he did 😉

„Breaking Bad“ review by Juta Kvederaitė 7B

I am not in danger, Skyler. I AM the danger. A guy opens his door and gets shot, and you think that of me? No! I am the one who knocks.“Walter White

formerThe storyline consists of Walt being diagnosed with Stage III cancer (don‘t worry, it‘s not really a spoiler, since it happens fairly quickly in the first season and this detail is written in almost every summary) and given only two years to live, he decides he has nothing to lose. To ensure a good, secure future for his sick son and wife, he finds a „cook-buddy“ Jesse, who was his former student, to join him on a crystal meth dealing, crime adventure. This show portrays how the drug community works and that with this very ‚cool‘ job can come dangerous obstacles, e.g. – death. Search these series up on Netflix and find out how Walt tries to hide the fact that he is a highly wanted dealer and has to hide the lung cancer from his family, his friends and most importantly – the police, while Jesse struggles with his parents and keeps running from the police and bad guys, who are after his bottom.

„Bitch“ [repeated line] – Jesse Pinkman

season.You probably can tell my plan to not be hooked on this show didn‘t work out. No regrets, though.

You choose – your family and a normal life, or being chased by the police and a scary, but at the same time exciting life?image3.jpeg

I would definitely re watch this show (in fact, I am re-watching it right now, hehe) and would also definitely recommend to anyone who hasn‘t jumped on the bandwagon yet.

„Skyler White: And why did it feel so good?

Walter White: Because it’s illegal.“

Ugnės recommendation: “Snow time”

#gallery-26 { margin: auto; } #gallery-26 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-26 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-26 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

Snow time is a movie about some kids, one of them is an orphan. His daddy died in a war. Kids have a winter holiday, so they decide to play and have a real snow battle. They divide into 2 teams. First team’s leader is Luke, the orphan boy. Second team’s leader is Sophie, she and her younger sister are new in town. They moved from another city. Sophie’s team builds a big castle from snow, it’s amazing!!!!

Luke’s team is “living” in the storehouse. All teams prepare an arsenal of snowballs and shoot them at the enemies  😈 They have strict rules, for example – they fight only during the day. When the sun sets it’s truths.

Luke and Sophie don’t want to be angry with each other. They want to be friends. Together they go skiing, they like each other a lot 😳  One day Luke’s “army” makes some catapults and destroys part of the castle. As the castle goes down…the large peace of snow falls directly on the Pier’s dog Cleo. The fight is over… and Luke is very sad because he blames himself for the dog’s death 🙁

So, Piers loses his dog. Luke comes to Cleo’s burial and plays a peace of music with his trumpet, the same music that was played at his father’s funeral. Piers says that Luke is not responsible for the death of Cleo. They remain friends and honor the lost dog.

After the burial the 2 teams unite and destroy what’s left of the snow castle together! Friendship wins:)

My first trip to Curonian Spit

Saturday
Parabolic dunes are the old Curonian Spit landscape’s element. 5 thousand years ago when Curonian Spit was just emerging, first low sandy dunes started to appear on the western part of the land. Under the influence of western winds small washouts were formed, and the piles of sand were moved into the land, gradually turning into horseshoe-shaped formations called parabolic dunes. In time they got covered by grass and wood. Their height was up to 30-50 m, but in 16 – 18 centuries mass lumbering opened sand to the wind, resulting in the destruction of the parabolic dunes in many places.

The “Hill of Witches” is made of parabolic dunes

Grey dunes (or Dead dunes) in Nagliai Nature’s Reserve

We rent a house near the Curonian lagoon.

Sunday

Monday
The Parnidis dune. The Parnidis dune is the only place in the Curonian Spit’s National Park where drifting dunes still remain. To the south, Parnidis dune opens the scenery of shifting dunes Grobstas Nature Reserve, and if the visibility is good one can see the sands of the Russian Federation. Scientists estimate that due to the prevailing western winds traveling dunes move from 0.5 to 10 m eastwards every year. Also that day we were watching for geocatches. Geo-catching is a smart phone application when you have to find a box which is hidden by another person. There is a peace of paper in that box where you have to record your name and date. We found four of such boxes. And it was fun!

And then…a long drive to Vilnius.

My first trip to the Curonian Spit was awesome!!! You have to visit the Curonian Spit too!!!
