My trip to Gothenburg by Giriotas

One day my aunt called me and said that she and my cousin are going on a trip. A trip to second largest city in Sweden – Gothenburg. She asked me if I want to go with them? I accepted their invitation with great pleasure. And after three weeks I traveled to Gothenburg.

In Gothenburg we were at about 17.00 p. m. Swedish time. We found our apartment and watched basketball.

Next day we visiteda botanical garden and saw a great view from the top of the rock garden. The garden was full of smells, colors and interesting plants.

After that we went to the museum of natural history which is full of stuffed animal. Some were made by humans, some were natural. Unfortunately all information was in Swedish and I couldn’t get to know more about the animals and their nature.

And finally we went to Sjöfartsmuseet Akvariet. It’s a sailing museum with lots of different boat models, but again I felt unhappy because all written and audio information was in Swedish.

Next day was the day that I waited for all the summer. This was the day that I went to Liseberg – my first amusement park ever.

But before that we were in an amazing museum called Universeum. There is a green place were birds can fly, fish can swim and sloths can sleep freely. There also were two floors of interesting games and interactive tests. One was for your health and why you need to be healthy and another floor was about space and how astronauts live and survive in space bases.

After that we went to LISEBERG!!! In Liseberg there are about 40 rides of which I visited 7.

First was The Balder. After that ride I lost my voice so I really recommend this ride.

After Balder we went to Lisebergbanan. It looks like kids’ roller coaster, but when you ride it you will love it.

Kållerado – was our third ride but it wasn’t as amusing as previous rides. Especially when I was hit by two shots of water.

FlumeRide – unfortunately my coat’s zip broke and I needed to borrow my aunt’s coat. I recommend to bring a good coat to this ride because if you don’t you will get totally wet.

Hanghaiwas probably my favorite ride in the Liseberg. I rode it 2 times. And I wanted the third one, but the line was terribly long so we passed it.

AtmosFear – lots of people know this ride as free fall. I recommend the AtmosFear because when you are at the top there is a great view of Gothenburg.

And our last ride was The Liseberg Wheel it gave us lots of spectacular pictures and memories.

Then we went to centre and accidentally found 50 minutes boat trip by water channels. In the journey we heard about the floating ships museum Maritiman and we decided to visit it another day.

After the boat trip we went to the shopping mall. We found Starbucks and had some coffee.

The third day was our last day. We visited The Maritiman. From 18 objects 13 are different ships. Maritiman is a floating ships’ museum. There are lightships, cargo ships, barges and a crane. We climbed down to the submarine which was my favorite one. And the interesting fact about the submarines is that before WWII at least 30 persons were needed to sail a submarine.

After exploring the ships we went for another cup of coffee at our beloved Starbucks. And this was the end of our very enjoyable journey. 🙄

1. How many rides did I take at Liseberg?

2. How many ships are there in The Maritiman?

3. What was the name of my favorite ride?

My practice week in Life Science Center by Gabrielė S.

I was always interested in science, various experiments, newest technology and what’s more important – how we can use it to benefit the human kind.

Therefore, I decided not only to watch different videos or to read about the intellectual and practical activity of humans based on natural world through observation but also to be a temporary worker in a lab.

Thanks to the company “Sėkmės mokykla“ , which gave me a chance to make this desire of mine come true.

So, talking about my days in the lab, I could say that we were doing some interesting work, i.e. animal cells thawing from liquid nitrogen, amplifying DNA using PCR (polymerase chain reaction) thermo cycler, making microfluidic chips, which are used for obtaining emulsion, using electronic pipette for making a component mix of PCR, preparing the agorose gel, which is used for electrophoresis (a technique used to separate the DNA molecules by amount of nucleotides), purifying the desirable fragment of DNA from the agorose gel, watching the results after PCR on computer using UV light and a little bit more. 😯

In the picture on the left (a hand with a glove 😉 ) you can see a component mix with 6x DNA loading dye (blue color), which contains glycerol and it becomes easier to release the solution from an el. pipette. In addition to this, the blue color shows approximately where the DNA in the agarose‘s gel is at the time of electrophoresis.

There are two electrophoresis chambers in the picture with red-purple containers. This machine creates an electric field and the DNA molecule can move through the agarose gel. DNA molecule with more nucleotides is bigger, therefore, it moves slower.

#gallery-1 { margin: auto; } #gallery-1 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 100%; } #gallery-1 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-1 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

These are the results of electrophoresis. Into agorose gel we added ethidium bromide, which causes gel to glow in the UV light and we can see DNA fragments in the first, second and third column.

There is a microfluidic chip, which is supposed to be used for mixing very small amounts of liquids. Actually, it helps to form droplets, which contain hydrogel beads, cell. In this chip you can notice repetitive structure. In each structure there are two inlets (for oil and for reagents) and one collection outlet, which is used to collect emulsion.

It‘s a lab, in which I mostly spent my time during the practice week. The computer shows a lot of identical droplets received by using microfluidic chip. These droplets are zoomed in, using a microscope, which you can see in the photo as well.

I strongly recommend to all of you, who are interested in life science, not to stop achieving your goals but to be creative and always stay observing everything around you because there are always so many things to do, invent or develop in this area.

You know, probably, sometimes it isn‘t the easiest task to be a scientist, but, in my opinion, it really pays off. 😉

My trip to London. By Emilė

LONDON has always been one of my super top destinations because of its history, culture, street fashions and music, language, beautiful ancient palaces and green parks with swans and squirrels. So we decided to do it this spring break. We were so lucky to have blissfully sunny weather and … huge crowds of foreign students.

Our schedule was really busy, so as soon as we got off the underground in Victoria station, crossed Green and St. James parks, we literally waved to the Royal Guard parade at the Buckingham palace and headed to the London Eye. After the spectacular ride we had a river cruise by boat and enjoyed the famous views from an open deck – Palace of Westminster with Big Ben, Shakespeare’s Globe, Tower of London with Tower Bridge…

Stephen Schwartz’s music, performers’ voices and dances and extremely enchanting special effects.

thOn our last day we visited St. Paul’s cathedral, Trafalgar square, Platform 9 ¾ at King’s Cross station for Harry Potter souvenirs and it was time to go back home.

It was a short trip, but my head is spinning until now full of impressions, beautiful memories, sounds of London accents and enormous variety of different kinds of people. I hope to go there some time again, only for a longer stay.

Travel to Ukraine. By Benas 6c

During winter holidays my family and I traveled to Ukraine. We went there by bus. We left from ”Forum palace” on February 15th at 2:30. From Vilnius to Bukovel we drove for about 20 hours.

Bukovel is a city in the eat of Ukraine near Romania. We crossed Poland. I wanted to get there faster. We arrived at the hotel at about 23:00. Then we got a late supper. I was very tired from trip. Next morning we ate a good breakfast. I went snowboarding and my family went skiing. We tried all tracks except some red and some black tracks. At 12:00 on track no. 12 about 300 Lithuanians sang our anthem and chanted Lietuva! Lietuva! Lietuva! We finished skiing at 16:30. We went back to the hotel and ate supper. My legs were very tired. Next day I went snowboarding on 1C, 1E and 5A tracks. In the evening we went to Bukovel city. On the last day I went snowboarding in 22C, 5K, 5B and 5A tracks. The landscape there was spectacular. I will never forget it. On Sunday we drove back home.

Near Ukrainian border we stood for 2 hours. We arrived in Vilnius at 22:00.I hope someday to get there again.

I love Bukovel 😳

Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. By Girius

This year after Rio 2016 Olympic Games there were Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. Games started on September 7th and finished on September 18th. Lithuania won 3 medals. Two !GOLDEN! and one silver. Silver medal winner is Mindaugas Bilius. He has physical disability. He won a silver medal in the discus throw event.

Later Bilius won a second medal, but this time golden. This time he won a medal in shot put.

And the last medal winners were Lithuania goalball team. Goalball team consists of blind and visually impaired people.

Goalball is a strage game because when two players are in the gate the third person is attacking. And the other team’s goalkeepers have to defend the gates. If they succeeded to defend it that team’s attacker attackthe other team and so on and so on and so on until the game time is over.

Thanks for reading and keep doing sport!

People with disabilities by the Baltic Sea. By Girius Uscila

There are lots of places that aren‘t accessible to people with disabilities. But I want to tell You about places that are accessible and comfortable to people that are using wheelchairs. One such place is Monciškės.

Monciškės is a settlement located between Palanga and Šventoji. In Monciškės people with disability can enjoy their holiday when they are near Baltic Sea.

What is so special about Monciškės? All houses, cafes, facilities and beach are accessible and adapted to the needs of wheelchair users.

Monciškės beach is always full and this is not surprising because this beach is comfortable to everyone including people with bikes, families with small children and elderly people.

Summer’s moment @ Palanga by ME.

Every year less and less people can afford Palanga 🙂 It is easier and of course cheaper to visit Turkey, Greece or other countries. But if you are patriot and love Lithuanian seaside you must challenge yourself and survive several days in Palanga including famous Basanavičius street, crowded beaches, expensive food and excellent music shows satisfying every taste 🙂

And if you are determined enough you will definitely be awarded for your effort. So some advice for those who haven’t given up yet and still love Palanga.

  1. Visit Palanga in the beginning of June -the nature is awakening this time of year and the streets are not so crowded
  2. Cycle along Basanavicius street instead of walking 🙂 You’ll feel safer and it’s easier to escape in case everything you see around is too much for you :))
  3. Have your ipod on the Beach if you don’t like loud announcements on the radio about the safety rules in the sea which are repeated every five minutes in 3 different languages 🙂
  4. Try not to eat in the local restaurants unless you are an extremely tolerant person
  5. Find your daily routine , that makes your day happier for e.g. a cup of coffee in the morning, jogging in the park, feeding wild ducks in the river, walking or cycling along the seaside in the evenings etc.

Summarizing, you can enjoy Palanga and find something nice. These are some photos that show “Life is beautiful in summer “

Urte’s trip to Morocco 8-)

Morocco is a country in Africa. There are about 32 878400 people in Morocco. They speak Arabic and Berber. Rabat is the capital of Morocco, but my trip was to the Agadir. It’s a beautiful town.

image1.jpeg

In this picture we can see a hill and a note on it with 3 most important words for Agadir‘s people: Allah, homeland and the king. At night the words begin to glow. There is a castle on that hill. There were a lot of camels and goats in Agadir. There were goats which climbed on the trees !!! When weimage2.jpeg arrived to Morocco, we went to our hotel „Omega“. There is a big pool and a big hall there. The Atlimage4.jpegantic ocean left the biggest impression for me. Next day we bought a lot of fruits (strawberries, oranges, mangoes, figs and bananas). Fruits were very delicious !!! One day we went to excursion to Marrakesh. Marrakesh is a big city. We went to the market in Marrakesh. There we saw a lot of cobras!!! It was very scary!!!

Marrakesh market. There are a lot of small streets in Marrakesh and a lot of motorcycles, bicycles, donkeys and people there.

#gallery-5 { margin: auto; } #gallery-5 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-5 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-5 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

Great weekend in Palanga by Girius

My spring holiday @ Palanga

At spring holidays, more specifically at Easter I was in Palanga. There is big eggs exhibition in Jonas Basanavičius street during the Easter period each year. There are about 10 eggs standing in the avenue and each of them is painted differently. Of course you can’t break them! Or can you?

When I’m in Palanga I love one café called “Café Banduke”. I go there every day. So I didn’t miss the chance this time. “Café Banduke” sells espresso, black coffee, latte, milk, hot milk and different cakes. Only some time ago they started to bake pizzas, but you can buy pizzas only on weekends.

#gallery-7 { margin: auto; } #gallery-7 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-7 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-7 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

“Café Banduke” is a special café, because they change their latte and milkshake every week.

This latte is called “Week’s coffee”.

“Café Banduke” isn’t only at. Basanavičiaus str. I wish you to meet @ one of “Café Banduke” and see next year’s eggs exhibition!

My first trip to Curonian Spit

Saturday
Parabolic dunes are the old Curonian Spit landscape’s element. 5 thousand years ago when Curonian Spit was just emerging, first low sandy dunes started to appear on the western part of the land. Under the influence of western winds small washouts were formed, and the piles of sand were moved into the land, gradually turning into horseshoe-shaped formations called parabolic dunes. In time they got covered by grass and wood. Their height was up to 30-50 m, but in 16 – 18 centuries mass lumbering opened sand to the wind, resulting in the destruction of the parabolic dunes in many places.

The “Hill of Witches” is made of parabolic dunes

Grey dunes (or Dead dunes) in Nagliai Nature’s Reserve

We rent a house near the Curonian lagoon.

Sunday

Monday
The Parnidis dune. The Parnidis dune is the only place in the Curonian Spit’s National Park where drifting dunes still remain. To the south, Parnidis dune opens the scenery of shifting dunes Grobstas Nature Reserve, and if the visibility is good one can see the sands of the Russian Federation. Scientists estimate that due to the prevailing western winds traveling dunes move from 0.5 to 10 m eastwards every year. Also that day we were watching for geocatches. Geo-catching is a smart phone application when you have to find a box which is hidden by another person. There is a peace of paper in that box where you have to record your name and date. We found four of such boxes. And it was fun!

The Parnidis dune

Tuesday
And then…a long drive to Vilnius.

Smiltynė

My first trip to the Curonian Spit was awesome!!! You have to visit the Curonian Spit too!!!

Get smarter?! with Vakarė Kuklytė “10 Words You Probably Get Wrong”

Words… Without them, we couldn’t do anything… We couldn’t go shopping, eating, all of us couldn’t read a book. Almost everything contains them (except math, duh L… Or maybe… the Petras bought 50 watermelons…),but anyways, here are some of the words, that you need to truly understand the meaning of before using them properly. J

1. Ultimate
What you think it means: The one, the only. The best.
What it really means: The last item of a list.

#gallery-9 { margin: auto; } #gallery-9 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 100%; } #gallery-9 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-9 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

“At the store we will need milk, eggs, cheese, and ultimately, butter!”

2. Nauseous
What you think it means: To feel ill.
What it really means: To cause feelings of illness.

#gallery-10 { margin: auto; } #gallery-10 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-10 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-10 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

The object made you ill is nauseous.

3. Enormity
What you think it means: Huge, enormous.

#gallery-11 { margin: auto; } #gallery-11 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 100%; } #gallery-11 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-11 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

What it really means: Immoral or evil.
Simply, it means really evil.

4. Terrific
What you think it means: Fantastic, good.
What it really means: Horrific, to inspire fear.

#gallery-12 { margin: auto; } #gallery-12 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-12 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-12 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

For example, you see a terrific monster, which inspires you fear.

5. Effect
What you think it means: To cause something to change.

#gallery-13 { margin: auto; } #gallery-13 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 100%; } #gallery-13 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-13 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

What it really means: An event that causes a change.

6. Disinterested
What you think it means: Bored.
What it really means: Neutral.

#gallery-14 { margin: auto; } #gallery-14 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-14 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-14 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

Being disinterested is stating that you don’t care about something.

7. Fortuitous
What you think it means: Lucky.

#gallery-15 { margin: auto; } #gallery-15 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-15 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-15 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

What it really means: By chance.
It can be good or bad things that happen by chance.

8. Literally
What you think it means: Figuratively.

#gallery-16 { margin: auto; } #gallery-16 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-16 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-16 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

What it really means: Actually.

So let’s imagine you say: “My head literally exploded back then”, then why are you here to tell us that? I mean, your head exploded, like, you shouldn’t even have it on you right now! 😀  🙄

Or, another example: “I literally got your back, bro”.
So, you’re saying this: “I possess your spine, bro”.
I would suggest on remembering this one.
9. Can
What you think it means: What is permissible.
What it really means: What is possible.
10. Bemused
What you think it means: Amused.
What it really means: Confused.
If you are bemused, then you are actually confused.

EXTRA SPELLING WORD! :DDDD

You’re spelling it like this – supposeBly, but that is WRONG.
Spell it like this – supposeDly.
Now, since you’re a pro, go out and impress people with your talking skills!! 😀

Breaking News|reporter: “Know more, live better””

Our school is on fire!!!!! This Wednesday, 11 am. the society of our school was shocked by extra-ordinary event. We‘re burning!!! About 900 people were evacuated. The students of 5-8 forms even missed their coats and schoolbags. Primary school students were strongly disappointed – they cried. These News reached the bigger part of my classmates, during the break in the Technology room. The social worker opened the door and screamed: Run AWAY!!! There was no reason to explain, cause thick grey smoke started to penetrate to our room . We all started to run.
Run AWAY!!! These words like a command didn‘t leave any thoughts in our minds. It looked like stop-motion horror film. The smoke chased us during the running corridor. We stopped when we got outside, but the horror didn’t disappear: we missed one classmate. No one saw her, until someone said, that she is in emergency car. During the accident, two more girls were poisoned by the smoke too.
We were standing on the other side of the road and trembling. I couldn‘t answer to myself as I shook from fear or cold. Thank god it wasn‘t -25*C outside that day. Rescue services started working: firefighters – in the building, doctors – in ambulances, police – stopped the traffic. Finally, after an hour, the fire was extinguished. Slowly, the students from neighbor buildings (where they were warming themselves, thanks to the people and office workers that provided shelter), returned to their classrooms, to take back their things. It was an hour of fear and panics for the smaller kids. The good news: tomorrow will be a day off. All of us must to calm down and make conclusions.

Vegetarian Lifestyle by Juta Kvederaitė 7B

To Meat or not to Meat?

less-toxinIf You Are What You Eat, Does That Make You Dead Meat?
This is written by me, Juta, who is going vegan for about 4 months now. I will pass you the information that I know, I collected and thought about. Will you make the decision to go green or not by my words, I don’t know, but what I do know is that I will definitely make you interested and keep you thinking about it every time you put a poor animal on your plate. Lettuce begin!

Q: What is vegetarianism\veganism?
A: Vegetarians do not eat meat, fish. Vegans are vegetarians who don’t eat or use any animal products (including milk, cheese, other dairy items, eggs, honey, wool, silk, or leather).

Q: Why do humans do this? Aren’t they supposed to eat meat to stay alive?heme-vs-non-heme-iron
People choose this lifestyle for many reasons such as – they love animals, have health issues, and think about the environment, ethical concerns, dislike of meat, non-violent beliefs and economics. It is important that you know why you are going vegetarian, because that will keep you going and don’t give up. Trust me when I say that sometimes you will want to cook some bacon or make yourself a delicious turkey sandwich! But then you will think about the reasons why you are on a meatless diet in the first place, turn around and pick up a delicious apple.
imagesAs for the debate about staying alive with meat – according to many vegan experts, our bodies aren’t made to digest meat. If we eat meat 3 times per day, our system has too much protein, fat. That leads to health problems by time. However, many sources tell otherwise. So, there is really no answer for that. Meat eaters say it’s important, while vegans say absolutely not. In my opinion – meat isn’t necessary, but it isn’t unhealthy to eat it either. I personally dislike the taste of meat, and think it’s wrong to kill animals for food purposes. Just choose for yourself if you don’t have medical complications.

Q: Can I go green if I don’t like vegetables?
A: This question is a popular one. When people hear the word “Vegetarian”, they think that we ONLY snack on cucumbers, lettuces or tomatoes.. And that is incorrect. Yes, our diet does consist vegetables, but we also eat grains, proteins, fruits, fats.
Grains: this food group includes bread, pasta, rice, wheat, oats and barley.
Proteins: includes dry beans, peas, lentils, fortified oatmeal, soybeans, spinach, tofu, soy, nuts (for vegetarians – Greek yogurt, eggs)
Fruits & Vegetables: this section is the center of vegetarianism. “Vegetarians should aim for at least six to eight servings of vegetables and three to four servings of fruit per day” – Loma Linda University School of Public Health. Try finding a solution for your dislike to greens (example: make your own pasta sauce with tomatoes, make a tortilla – use the in stores rounded bases (make sure they have all natural ingredients) with an avocado filling) for this lifestyle you need to try many things and experiment until you find what you like!
Fats: The body requires a small amount of dietary fat to ensure proper brain development, temperature regulation and protection for organs. One serving of these healthy fats might include 1 ounce of nuts or seeds, 2 tablespoons of nut butter or 1 teaspoon of some kind of edible oil.

10 Tips for Vegetarian\Vegan for the first time
1. Before going vegetarian I would suggest to research. Don’t quit eating meat right this second. It doesn’t work like that, and you’ll just mess up your immune system. Take it slow.
2. Talk to a doctor. You need to ensure you’re safe and healthy while doing this. Some people actually need to eat meat to stay healthy! So before making your decision, speak to a professional.
3. Watch documentaries. This is optional, but if you are serious about going meatless or just simply not bothered to google some info and want a more interesting way of learning, this is perfect. I will list some documentaries you can watch (be aware of gory images)

#gallery-19 { margin: auto; } #gallery-19 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-19 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-19 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

4. Don’t be surprised when someone doesn’t agree with you and don’t pressure your friends and family to adapt the same diet. Not everyone wants to go meatless, but it would be cool if you had a friend or a group with you going veg, because it would support and help you to keep going. So find an internet group on social media, and share recipes! You don’t need to bring up your choice on every conversation.new-vegan-food-text
5. Don’t be a bad person, choose this because you want to, not because you want to lose weight or something else. Eat by color, not by calorie.
6. Take a cooking class… or just watch a YouTube video with a veggie chef if you can’t afford the time and money.
7. Eat smart. Just because vegetarians have delicious junk food, doesn’t mean you only eat them. They aren’t a staple.
8. Visit a farm or a shelter. Make a cute piglet or chicken your friend, see how much they show love to you and then think about killing and eating it for one meal. It might change everything you think about meat.
9. Make sure you have enough info about veg life. When someone tries to trash your lifestyle, give them a taste of their own medicine by pointing out the bad stuff about meat eating. Don’t get furious by this, keep calm posture and show your intelligence. I have experienced this many times – I start thinking about screaming and pulling my hair out when a person argues about this, but staying calm and collected will show that you are educated and you know what you are doing.
10. Make a speech for your parents if you’re underaged. You can’t just drop a bomb “I’m vegetarian” and just expect them let you. First of all, they will probably ask ‘why?’ Answer honestly, with the reason or two (health, economics, political view, hate killing animals, etc.). Offer to buy the products and cook them yourself. Look up recipes. Show you are responsible for this and you will look after yourself.

Going vegetarian or vegan doesn’t mean that you will only annoy people while dining out. So, carrots anyone?
Let me know what you think in the comments about vegetarian lifestyle! 🙂

Christmas Time. By Jogailė Čojūtė

Christmas is celebrated on 25th of December. Before that, we have a yummy Christmas Eve dinner – the 24th. This is a favorite holiday for everyone, for me as well.

Why I wait for Christmas, is because it’s celebrated to remember the birth of Jesus Christ, who Christians believe is the Son of God. It is also the holiday when our whole family and relatives gather to enjoy “the big dinner” and peace. I have to mention, that decorating the Christmas tree, hanging lights and ornaments while listening to some classic Christmas songs is the most fun part of getting ready for it…! And let’s not forget the presents, but the biggest present of all, is the mood around us.
Even if the time we celebrate Christmas is the darkest for our eyes, after it, animals and the nature wake up – it becomes lighter and lighter and brighter and brighter and I understand, that it shows, that no matter where you are, or what the time is – there is always hope.
What is your most favorite holiday? And if it’s Christmas, share below what you feel about it :)!
Psssst, and what is on your wish list?

Students’ thoughts about Halloween / Movie reviews

Pay the Ghost is a 2015 American supernatural horror film directed by Uli Edel and written by Dan Kay. The film was released on September 25, 2015. Running time 94 minutes.
A professor, Mike Cole (Nicolas Cage)  searches for his son who was abducted during a Halloween parade. The movie jumps to the next year when the parents are still looking for their son and starting to hear and see their son reaching out to them from the other world. The professor is able to break into this world and bring back his son as well as the other children that were taken exactly one year ago on Halloween.
I enjoyed this movie because it was very interesting, moving  very shocking sometimes.

enjoy your watching. Barbora Turauskaitė 8a

♣Halloween is in the top three of my favourite holidays. I’m “shaking in my boots” for Halloween ! I  love these kind of tips, good job ”Dj_Emukas”!
I like pranks and if i do a party a will definitely prank someone. I have loads of ideas for pranks.
For the costume i would choose joker, but the modern one. The one with scars, lots of face paint and a psycho mind (from the ,,Dark Knight”). I love that character, he’s very iconic, in one way he’s funny and in another way he’s creepy. So i think he would make a very good costume! Adomas Gliožeris 7B

♦Pay the ghost review
In my opinion the film is good, but not great. There are some great scenes and there are some strange scenes. The acting is great until the collapsing portal bridge scene.
Two kids ran straight to the portal and come back to the building, but Charlie’s dad some how fall’s off the bridge and Charlie pull’s him up. I think that Charlie physically couldn’t pull his dad up.
Some scenes were confusing, Like the taxi crashing into the only car in the street. In my opinion the film could have been more interesting to watch if it would explain it’s self. Povilas Kvederas 8B

⊗My review of film “Pay the ghost”

Personally I liked this film and the acting, but the film’s plot wasn’t very original, you know where will be jump scares and you can guess what will happen next. I would recommend this film to people who like films : “A Christmas Horror Story”, “Hidden” and “Knock Knock”. I would give this film 6.5/10 because of the plot holes. Kris K

ω A review of the movie “Pay the ghost”

“Pay the ghost” is a horror movie, about a father, who is a literature teacher at a university,  trying to find his son, who is mysteriously kidnapped in a Halloween festival. The movie does manage to create a spooky atmosphere using a creepy 17th century house and a random black bird appearing once in a while. Even though the film is creepy, the plot is “interesting”. Somehow a university teacher is the first one to realize, that on Halloween children are missing and never found, in 400 years. Another unclear thing is the relationship of Mike and Lauren. They seem to have separated after Charlie went missing, but rejoined after both of them had a hallucination of Charlie. Overall the movie has its flaws, but if you have nothing else to do it is not that bad. And if you don’t like horror movies or thing that this movie is a disaster, you can still find the comical part of it. Domimykas Dautoras 8a

η Halloween is the festival celebrated on 31 of October which is one of my favorite festivals in the year. This festival is very interesting because of its unique exclusivity. People dress up like monsters, ghosts, pirates etc. Children go out in the streets and go trick or treating to their neighbors. I enjoy Halloween so much that I even celebrate it in the small village where my grandparents live. We celebrate Halloween there because it gives a perfect atmosphere for Halloween . On Halloween we look like freaks, we carve pumpkins, dress up like zombies etc. When we go out for trick or treating we go to different houses, knock on windows and things like that. We actually don’t ask for candy, instead we give people something. For example toilet paper…  and it’s really fun. There were so many reactions that one time a man was so scared that he didn’t want to talk.  It’s sad that Halloween is banned in Lithuania ,but still I enjoy it so much that I keep celebrating it each year. 😀  Simonas Jurkynas 8B

I celebrated Halloween because it is very fun and entertaining festival. Every year we  dress up as various monsters and go asking for sweets.Usually people are friendly and give us some candies or money, but there are some people who don’t give us anything and just angrily close the doors. This year I am going to be a vampire.I love Halloween because I  can meet with friends at a party and have some fun. Each year I and my friends invite as many people as possible and pick the best costume.Winner get’s one kilogram of sweets.
Simas B. 8a
♠I think that Halloween is a great event for people , why ? because it’s a good way to spend your own time with family and friends  during this festival you can see a lot of beautiful costumes and admire different pumpkins.I love this festival because you can scare people and get  a lot of candies. In my opinion it is a great feast:) Danilas
ψ I think Halloween is a very funny and at the same time a little scary feast. Though I haven’t celebrated Halloween for two years, I remember painting my face, wearing scary masks and asking people for candies with friends. For me the best thing about Halloween is hanging out with friends scaring people and having lots of great time. Another great thing about Halloween is once you get home, you have lots of candies to eat and you also get some money to buy even more candies ! So I think Halloween is all about having a great time with your friends, lot of candies and pain in the stomach after eating too much of them… Karolis

ø  Hey guys !  Films. I think everybody like watching films in autumn because there aren’t much to do when it’s raining outside. So I’m going to share with you my opinion about film called “Pay the ghost”.

Maybe it could sound a little bit scary, but film isn’t the horror movie. It’s a fantasy, thriller and sometimes you can start shaking because there are some scary parts in it.
So the film is about, how one year after Mikes young son disappeared during a Halloween carnival, he is haunted by eerie images and terrifying messages he can’t explain. Together with his wife, he will stop the mystery and find their son-and, in doing so, he unearths a legend that refuses to remain buried in the past.
At first I thought that this film will be the usual horror movie, but when I started watching it I got interested and involved in it. It’s such a good story. And I think it is really a good idea to watch it if you are having a Halloween party, because this story is related to Halloween
And of course I recommend it to you ! Smiltė 8b

I usually celebrate Halloween with my friends It is a holiday which is not very big thing in our family, so my parents don’t celebrate it. In my opinion this is a very fun holiday  when you can be who ever you want. This years party was THE BEST of all️.  Guostė 8a

♣ Pay the ghost” where do I even begin?

First of all the main cast: Nicolas Cage as Mike (dad), Sarah Callies as Kristen (Mike’s wife),  Jack Fulton as Charlie (son) and Lyriq Bent as Jordan (police officer).
There is no synergy between the main cast at all and Nicolas Cage’s acting was just like the story of this movie- dull and unoriginal, just like all of other Nicolas Cage’s performances in his latest films. It’s like he didn’t even try to show any emotion in this film. But without that I don’t have a slightest problem with the cast of the movie. I was surprised that I even liked the acting of Lyriq Bent as the police officer because for me it was the only thing that motivated me to watch this poor excuse for a film. When I got the cast out of the way I can begin to tell you the horrible story of the movie.
So… Nicolas Cage is an every day dad for Charlie that works as an English teacher, who decides that its a good idea to go to a Halloween carnival when its dark and spooky with his son Charlie. But in the carnival Charlie told his dad something really spooky that they needed to “Pay the ghost” and then Charlie disappeared into thin air… Really? That is the best way to start a film? We didn’t even get to know the character more before he disappears into thin air. But after this moment in the story the  movie becomes a generic horror story with nothing interesting at all, I mean AT ALL… The movie spices up a little bit when they started to throw at us tons of spooky jump scares, but wait! The jump scares were not scary at all… The movie should scare us with it’s atmosphere and tension, but not with flashing a scary picture at us for half a second to scare us. I’m not going to giveaway the ending of the movie, but don’t get your hopes up because it’s Cliche and not interesting just like the whole plot of the movie. So…. Yeah, the movie is just another piece of crap with Nicolas Cage’s name on it. I wouldn’t even wish for my enemies to see this film because it is THAT bad. So my final score for this movie is a 3/10 because of its horrible and Cliche story. The only thing that saves this movie for being a 2/10 is the acting of Liriq Bent, it’s the only good thing in this movie and I’m not kidding. Period… Matas Karūnas 8B
♥ The Halloween party of 8a
Every year, the “A” eight graders celebrate the Halloween just like most of the people. This year we did it pretty early – the 16th of October. But it was such a blast! 
There was music, snacks and we always order pizza whenever we are partying. We had a such a good time playing games which really increased our creativity: every group of people got a scary story and they had to prepare an acting performance. And all the other stuff, but mainly I enjoyed dancing like there’s no tomorrow.
And we can’t forget about the most important thing of the evening – the costumes! We had absolutely all spooky creatures – zombies, dolls, skeletons, angels, vampires and even tanks! 😀 (Shout out to my friend Dominykas!). Costumes are my favorite part because it creates the atmosphere around us and it is very interesting to see others appearance that took them a long time to make.
By the way, I was a ballerina for this year’s Halloween if you’re interested! If you still don’t know your costume, make sure to check my post of Halloween costume ideas. Comment below if your class is doing anything for Halloween…. I hope you have a spooky and a mysterious Halloween.. Jogailė 8a
I have seen the movie „Pay the ghost“ and I would like to express my opinion about it. This is only film that i have seen about Halloween. It impressed me very much. There were many scary moments and that I was shocked by all the sound effects and the film was very gripping. Jump scare was the most thrilling. Ewen though I understand it is a movie the kidnapping scenes were too realistic so I was happy it was just a movie. The tension disappeared when the father rescued his sun from the ghost’s house . I liked music that helped create terrifying atmosphere. I would like to see more action scenes in the film, as I like a lot of action actually. Also I liked the actor who played daddy, because he was very strong, smart, brave, sporty. One scene was very interesting, where it showed how boy lost his memory about what had happened in the ghost’s house. In my opinion, it happened because the boy was too scared. Horror films usually have happy end. I knew this film would also have happy end. Irvinas Gedraitis 8a

♠  I’m always waiting for this day. It’s kind of Christmas for me :D. And I begin planning my suit 2 months before this celebration. Usually I am creepy, or scary thing. I just really like to surprise people with my look. When I was younger, i always went with my cousin to all my street houses, to get candies from people. Then, when we got back home with a lots of candies, we watched scary movies or just told stories to each other. But now, when I’m not a child, we organize parties with my class. Everybody dress who they want to be, and then, we are playing games, telling something, laughing, just having a good time, and at those moments I remember why I love my class so much. Sad, but for me this year is last in this school. And I am going to miss my classmates soo much… :/ Augustė Kriaučeliūnaitė 8a

PAY THE GHOST This movie is about a father, (played by Nicolas Cage), that loses his son and by searching for him, he finds a pattern, of three children disappearing every Halloween, that are never found again, what leads him to the discovery of a ghost that is kidnapping them…
I did like the movies atmosphere, and its grim tone, but the plot wasn’t very clear, especially all of the northern mythology, and the movie relied on quite a few cheap tricks, like jump scares, witch were way to easy to predict.
Generally I liked the movie, and recommend to watch it, if you want to watch something for Halloween, but don‘t like movies that are to scary. Aleksandras Melnik 8a

You ask me, why I like Halloween? Probably it is not really important holiday in Lithuania, but still some people celebrate it. It is a very nice event, because all people who celebrate it wear interesting costumes, masks and paint their faces. Kids ask for candies and goes to  houses and flats. And for example in America, where Halloween is very important holiday and most of the people enjoy it, they have festivals, interesting events, they all together go to streets and etc. So Halloween is really interesting and fascinating holiday. Simas Montvila 8b

◊Why I love Halloween
I love Halloween because:
1) You can be whatever you want, super hero, a robber, etc. I think it is always fun to imagine that you are a superstar or the scariest which in the world.
2) It is a day when you can wear crazy makeup and don’t feel embarrassed. I just love doing scary makeup that I wouldn’t be able to wear every day or even sometimes.
3) You can be awake all night with your friends. That’s cool because who doesn’t love to watch scary movies all night.
4) We can’t forget about the candy, it is just the best tradition ever, I mean like that is the best part of the Halloween, you just don’t need to think about how much candy you just ate because you won’t stop.
That’s why I love and always celebrate Halloween, why do you like Halloween?:) Emilija Linkevičiūtė 8b

Advice on Halloween’s dress up from Dj_Emukas

It’s Halloween

Your friend is throwing an awesome Halloween party, but you have no idea what to wear? Maybe your just too lazy and don’t want to think? Or maybe you just don’t want to be dressed as someone or something, because you think it’s lame. Well, then these are the basics:

1. Dress in black or any other Halloweenish color. It will create your default look.Glow sticks
2. Wear a cloak. Or anything with a hood. Let it cover your face and you will look more mysterious.a cloak
3. Glow sticks are a good accessory! You can take one or two colors and use only them. Actually, just play with the colors. Everything can work!
4. If you have a friend, who also forgot/is lazy, then this is a great opportunity! You can both dress the same. You can dress in the same or opposite colors. You can dress as opposite personalities. Again, anything can work.
5. Dress in your school uniform. But not just your school uniform. Make yourself look messy. You can pretend to be little Joker.BatGirl-and-Little-Joker
6. Act. You don’t always need a good costume. Sometimes you just need to get into character.

And maybe you are the one hosting the party? You need some decorations, but your on a budget? Maybe, you just don’t want to clean up much afterwords? Here are some easy decorations:

7. Make a cobweb. It’s easy, the only thing you’ll need is some old yarn. Why old? Because it’s more likely to be dusty and torn. So, make a snowflake out of 4 strings. Lay that on the ground. Then tie a maximum of 4 other strings in a circle between them all. It’s important for all of it to be loose. So when you attach it to a corner it’ll look more realistic.cobweb
8. Use lots of candles. You can put them in mason jars and maybe attach little cobwebs to them. Use red candles, so when the wax drips down it’ll look like bloodmason jars
9. Make a traditional jack-o-lantern. It may take a while, but if you make it the main object, it will look nice.

And lastly:

10. Always, and I mean always…No, I’m not gonna say “Be safe, bla bla bla…” or “Have fun bla bla bla…”. No, I’m telling you to do a prank. Just do it. Halloween isn’t Halloween without a prank. Prank someone or prank EVERYONE. Even if it’s the last thing you do.

5. Use a spring from an old pen to keep your charger from bending or breaking.

10. Take an empty tissue box and attach it to a full tissue box with rubber bands. Then as people need a tissue, they can throw it away in the empty box. Works great if you have a cold.
