What is freedom for me? By Viktorija Tamašauskaitė

What is freedom for me?

At the end of long and exhausting day I sit here looking through my window… And all I can think of is people down there, on the streets. They look happy – what else can a person need? And the answer just pops into my head – freedom. People, small or big, young or old, short or tall – everyone wants the same thing – to be free. And then I thought about what freedom really means for me, what is it and why it is so important to me.

Firstly, freedom for me is being able to make my own choices. No one can tell me what to do – I make my own path which I walk. I choose what to eat today, where to go tomorrow and where to live after a year or two. This is what comes naturally in everyone’s lives, but not everyone can evaluate what they have. Freedom is one of the most important aspects of our lives because without it we would be only like robots in this society.

Secondly, freedom is to speak what I want and whenever I want. These days people all around the world are afraid to speak for themselves because they would be judged. Differences between cultures, ethnicities and views make it hard to communicate with each other freely. Sometimes one thing that was said by a person can have more than one meaning and others get insulted and mad. That‘s why there is no peace in our world. But we all have the freedom of speech and no one should get insulted for what another person has to say. Everyone has their own opinions, views and they should be free to talk and express themselves.

To sum everything up, I just want you all to know that freedom is never about only few things like I mentioned above. It is all about the whole set of values that we have, privileges, views and everything that surrounds us. For me, freedom is the most important thing in life, because I can do whatever I choose to according to my values. Without the freedom I have, I wouldn‘t be who I am today. Freedom makes us all unique and exceptional. Without it, we would be only grey mass. So don‘t let yourself be stopped – be free!

Does freedom exist? By Kotryna Liutkutė

Does freedom exist…

„When I discover who I am, I‘ll be free‘‘ – Ralph Ellison.

Freedom is usually characterized as “feeling to lack restrictions”. Everyone wants to think and move freely, behave as they wish. But does freedom actually exist?

There are several online discussions related to this question. Majority of people in this matter chose the answer “no”, stating that everything in the world is limited, restrained, confined and dependent on something else, while others state, that freedom exists in our minds and that‘s all what we need.

However, there was no answer, which seemed the fairest or at least the most reasonable to me.

There was only one argument, which caught my eye. The author of the message wrote that freedom is a variable of being completely on your own. It doesn‘t mean you can do whatever you desire, but rather you can try what you want to do, and only you can decide whether to follow the rules or not.

So, does the freedom exist? Hardly everyone of us will have the same opinion. It‘s a pretty abstract concept. Hopefully, all of us have the right to choose our truth and it only depends on you which truth will be yours.

“What is Freedom for me?” By Viltė Žigaitė

“What is Freedom for me?”

A definition of freedom is uncertain and it never will be, since every single person has their own views on moral things based on their beliefs. People‘s opinions can be as different as day and night, but it‘s wrong to say that some people are right, and others – are not, because everyone should have a will to express their opinion however they want to.

Some people may say that freedom for them is being able to travel around the world, discover new cultures and meet different personalities, others may see it as a form of expression, an ability to show what a human being is capable of. For me, personally, freedom is being able to speak my mind without actually saying anything, being able to express my feelings and emotions through art or music, that way I can show people what I‘m trying to say and for them not just listen to me, but truly hear what I am telling. Freedom is being true to myself, creating myself the way I want to, piecing my life together as I go, being unlimited, making spontaneous decisions, being the person I want to be, not something other people want me to, creating my own style, choosing a music genre I love, picking out my favourite colour. Freedom is the ability to choose and not being managed by someone else. Freedom is pursuing and achieving , setting a life goal and being able to succeed at reaching it. It‘s an opportunity to learn from the mistakes you‘ve made in addition to be a better person. Freedom is being independent.

All in all, freedom is one of the most important things in life, without it I wouldn‘t be the person I am today, it‘s great to have an ability to express my thoughts and views freely, sharing my ideas with people, being able to choose the kind of person I want to be. For me freedom is being different.

F-R-E-E-D-O-M. By Augustė Stravinskaitė

Freedom

Freedom is human being’s opportunity to behave and act at his or her own discretion. The notion of these several words does not describe my freedom, but my freedom is not like yours and your freedom is not like any others.

A street musician, a bakery on the corner, a dancing girl, a humming person. They all are connected by … Freedom? To be free – means not to think, not to contemplate, but simply feel. Maybe a person gives up freedom for the life where it seems necessary, I mean he sacrifices. Sometimes individuals think and act one way or another, because life is like a movie in which they are the main actors. By taking care of household chores they forget the main act where freedom is required, freedom of the mind. Freedom is a sense in which you have to forget yourself. However it is impossible to forget oneself completely, this is why a person sees freedom as only a capricious cloud of illusion which has many conditions, but at the same time there are no conditions but the ones the person creates for oneself. So Why is a human being so helpless and why doesn’t he realize that he is giving up freedom.. getting lost in the reality of a routine.

To me, freedom is like fine china which is difficult to preserve, life’s rhythm may get crazy. If it is so difficult to have and preserve, do we really need it? The answer is YES!

What is freedom? By Donata Jackevičiūtė

What is freedom?

Freedom for me is when I can freely talk with other people: my siblings, parents, friends, and teachers.

Freedom for me is a possibility to surf the internet and to find there necessary information.

Freedom for me is also reading books chosen by myself.

I think, that a lot of people understand correctly the meaning of “freedom”, like I do, but there are some people who think about it differently, even wrongly. They think, that the freedom is a possibility to fight on the street, to taunt over others and to do other harmful things. It isn’t right. That isn’t the freedom that is bully, addiction or abusing rights of other people.

I think, that for modern children it would be useful to know about freedom from their parents and grandparents because they could tell about their experience of living in a country occupied by Russia and lacking of freedom. Now it is very hard to imagine being under total control of others and living without right to speak freely or even listen to radio and to music from other countries.

I am sure that we are so happy, because our parents and grandparents fought and won Lithuania’s independence and freedom!

Freedom. By Karolina Čereškevičiūtė

Freedom. This word tells nothing to us compared to what the meaning says. Many people may think, well, freedom is just that what other allows you to do free and no one controls you. But this is only one way of understanding the word “freedom”. This is an external – physical freedom.

Lithuania was in USSR’s structure once, but now it is free. This is another example of external freedom. But do you know what the inner freedom is? This form of freedom is much more serious than the latter one. It has a much deeper significance. Not everyone can perceive what it actually is. I can tell you what I think about it. Of course, as many people, as many opinions, so everyone sees the same thing with different eyes, different colors, and understands it absolutely differently. I think the inner freedom is not just a simple external freedom, when you feel free physically. The inner freedom is when your minds are free. It’s how you feel it in your heart. No vainly it’s called inner. It’s called inner because you need to experience feeling it with your inside. It’s when you don’t feel chained inside, but you’re just simply happy. But to feel the inner freedom you need to know how to do it. Maybe we believe that we are free, but our mind and our heart doesn’t feel it. But how to know if you are feeling the true taste of freedom? Maybe it’s just another, deceptive and really similar feeling.

Deeply in my heart I feel, that freedom makes us feel freely, it liberates us from our all sins, evil thoughts, and you’re just about to forget everything. Yes…. Everything. That’s what I think freedom really is!

Our Freedom By Gabija Gnėdikaitė

Our Freedom

In earlier times freedom had a different meaning. Even in different situations freedom gets a different meaning. Freedom, like honor, justice changes very often and means something else. Freedom for a person- emotional freedom, physical freedom… we can make a lot of different kinds of freedom. Sometimes, we even don’t notice that we are free, we want different freedom. Animals and plants also want freedom. We see, how early in spring, small plants break pavement, to get free.

I also understand freedom differently. From small, everyday situations, like freedom to choose what to eat, to hundreds of years, countries, freedom always will be different. People, who haven’t experienced occupation, usually understand only physical freedom. However, freedom can cause a lot of problems, because there always will be people who don’t know what to do with freedom.

We can see it with Lithuania. United Lithuania was strong, but people who owned, used freedom unduly, so we lost it for a long time. But if people see that they lost their freedom, they will always try to get it back. We can see an example of this by two uprisings against Czar’s government.. Finally, we became free, but after some time, we again used freedom unduly.

We have to understand this and use freedom responsibly. We can’t lose any kind of freedom. If we lose personal freedom- we will lose state freedom. We have to save our freedom!

What is freedom to me? By Neda Lasickaitė

What is freedom to me?

Freedom to me is being myself, a chance to travel around the world and do what I want to do, not to be scared of saying my opinion. Unfortunately, our parents lived without such freedom. But now for us, the young generation, it’s hard to imagine how it could be. We are living as free people all the time of our life. Sometimes I think, maybe we’re not always so free? Why? Because we must wear uniforms at school. Our parents wore them too, and this continue from the old times till now. Uniforms make us all as one, similar, without personality. I think this is a problem. But does being without uniforms would give us “real” freedom? I think, that not. The freedom for me is the possibility to choose what I really want to do – my extra activities. That is what helps to find the real me, for example I revealed myself in athletics.

Freedom is the most important thing in the world. Without freedom it would be hard to live a valuable life, we would be discouraged and limited.

We have to be thankful for our freedom to brave Lithuanians, because they weren’t afraid of the Soviet Union army and signed an act of the Lithuanian independence.

Importance of freedom. By Julija Minauskaitė

Freedom is extremely important to people all around the world, including myself. It is something we are gifted with, taken away with, or something we got and won. It’s like privilege not everyone has, but what everyone needs and wants. Freedom is very important for today’s world, but what exactly is freedom and what does it give to us?

Freedom itself is independence and a right to do anything you desire. It is like a tree forked into many branches, where each branch has its purpose, where each branch gives people a special right: right to travel around the world, right to choose whatever you want, right to speak widely, right to vote for what or who you want, right to stand up for what you believe in, right to fight for what is right…

Without freedom, we wouldn’t be able to make many choices, invent new things, express our opinions, emotions and do other incredible actions. Without freedom, we wouldn’t be able to be ourselves! Just think about this. The world would be miserable if we didn’t have full package of rights called freedom.

Freedom gives us many wonderful opportunities and with them, we can make world a better place to live in. For example, with the right to travel, you get the change to travel to various locations and help the environment, or with the freedom of speech, for example, you can stand up for people who don’t have as many rights and help them or even protect them from captivity etc.

In conclusion, having freedom we can be what we want to be. Freedom gives us plenty of wonderful opportunities and rights, and with them, we are the people who make changes and invent new things for the world to have better tomorrow. Freedom is powerful!

What does freedom mean to me? By Julius Kalindra

What does freedom mean to me?

For me freedom is everything. It lets me be free. You can basically do whatever you want, from traveling around the world without problems to being a happy man. There are no limits to your imagination of being free. I’m happy to say to everybody that I’m free.

Not everybody gets the opportunity to be free. There are millions people that are constrained. They are stated from some guy that they don’t like. Once, it was the same in my homeland. Everybody should be thankful for partisans that fought with their blood for what we have now. I appreciate patriotism for their home, and I wish that I will get the honor to be like them one day.

I think the key to freedom is language. Without your nationality you will become someone else. Words and sentences in your language gives the reason to be patriotic. It lets you speak free from all the other people. I’m happy to be able to speak Lithuanian and that’s only one of the great things that freedom gives you.

FREEDOM for me. By Girius

FREEDOM for me

If you’re free you can do everything just not against the law.

You can wear whatever you want. You can say whatever you want. You can be whatever you want.

FREEDOM is also respecting other people’s FREEDOM.

From history I know that some people thought that they are giving FREEDOM to other people but in practice they suppressed people who thought, behaved and were different.

If something is stopping you to seek for your dream! Don’t stop dreaming! Because dreaming is FREEDOM, too. If you want to be a doctor – be a doctor. If you want to be a teacher – be a teacher. And if you want to be anyone else – be.

What does FREEDOM mean to me?

For me FREEDOM is living your live like you want to.

Your choice.

Your opinion.

Your decision.

Your life.

Freedom. By Gabrielė

Freedom

When I lose my freedom, I become sad, angry. Of course, my lack of freedom is just me not being able to go out with my friends. My lack of freedom is not being unable to have freedom of speech, being scared to go to school in the morning because maybe, just maybe, I could die. My lack of freedom is not real. It’s not what others may feel. It’s not being unable to dress however I want, love whoever I want, think and live however I want.

Sometimes I think about how they may feel, they, the people who can’t be themselves. Who have to lie. Actually, I think about this quite often. Maybe too often. I think about how we’re all not free. Trapped inside our heads thinking the same stuff, day to day… Nothing changes. Maybe, we’re all trapped inside the same routines, the ones that we have been living in for decades. Maybe we’re trapped here, in this world, and only after death will we know the meaning of freedom. And maybe, there’s nothing after death, and we have to feel freedom here, at least once in our lifetime. Maybe we came into existence just to become free. Maybe, some are free physically, some not, but we’ll feel free only if we break down those cages we’ve built within ourselves, the ones that we’ve declared as our home. And maybe, there’s no freedom. Maybe we’re all just prisoners, who will never understand the true meaning of the word FREE. And maybe, I’m just thinking too much about this again. I always think too much.

What Is Freedom. By Tomas Aukštuolis

What Is Freedom

Freedom is the best thing that you can have, but it’s not for everyone. Some people really like being free, some of them just don’t like freedom and some of them can’t even have freedom. So, why is this freedom so important?

Freedom is a thing that we can’t touch, but it is there if you actually believe in it. For some people it is very important, because they can make decisions by themselves. Get education where ever they could, talk a language they want, live a life however they want. But some of us don’t really care about freedom. They want someone else to make their own life decisions. And some people can’t have freedom. They hate the fact that they can’t have freedom, but some of them don’t care. Some of them will fight for freedom, or accept the unwanted faith.

In my opinion I care about freedom, because I want to make my own life decision. And you should make a choice of having freedom or not.

What is liberty for me? By Ignas Venskus

What is liberty for me?

What would you do if someone asks you to write a paragraph about freedom, liberty? Normally people would search some info on the internet about, what’s freedom? Wikipedia.com says that liberty is a free will as a contrast with determinism. But what would you say to a 3rd grader?

I’d choose to tell him about the history of Lithuania. When we weren’t free, when others wanted our land, we couldn’t say our opinion, it was forbidden to speak Lithuanian… What if you had to wait in queues for 3 hours, just to buy some bananas? What if you walk into a store and the shelves are empty. Not because the stuff was sold out, because food was never there. Compare that to these days… We can have what we want, whenever we want.

Don’t forget the days before liberty. Be happy you don’t belong to somebody else, but yourself.

Freedom. By Marius Valeika

I think freedom is ability to do whatever you want and go wherever you want. It let us feel free around everybody across the world. To talk to anybody about anything you like. Well you don’t understand what its like to be without a freedom, either I. But in late 40s our country was occupied by soviet union and our fathers had to live in occupied country with other people dictating their rules. Yea bad times there was. But hope, and bravery saved us. I guess there is nothing like freedom and there will never be, but right i can only sit down, relax and say (that was worth it).

FREEDOM by Domas S.

Imagine a cage, a cage where your actions are very limited and restrained. Well, freedom is the key to this cage. People are ready to die for the freedom of their country and their generation. Freedom gives you the ability to do whatever you want, right? Well, no. Freedom does give you the right to be happy and also gives you the right to do more actions, but it doesn’t give you the right to do everything. Even when you are free, you don’t have the right to take another person’s life or freedom, you don’t have the right to make fun of the person, make his life miserable. I am not saying that freedom is a bad thing and that we should be able to do anything we want, I am saying that freedom still has its limits.

Freedom. By Matas Dovydėnas

Freedom for me is when I can choose. When I can decide. But I am young, I don’t know what it means to be forced to do something. I don’t understand how it feels. Some people risked their lives. Some people didn’t survive when the Russians came. A lot of people struggled, but we fought, we resist, we didn’t give up.

Once I came back home, angry and frustrated beyond any reason. Me and my mother talked about what happened. But I didn’t want to talk. She just spoke, spoke and spoke. But I was too angry to listen. I wanted to just slam the door, but I knew if I did that she would get angry. She spoke something about Soviet years, how it was difficult to live, how it was sad and dangerous to resist. I remember just thinking: “when will she stop talking about those stupid things”. But I just sat there staring in the floor. I didn’t understand why she was talking about that. She talked for an half an hour and I heard this and it stayed for the rest of my life: “Matt everybody and everything is important, the past, the future, the details are important too. Matt, future- we can’t see, past- we can’t forget, freedom is great, but you don’t know what it’s like to live without freedom”.

I didn’t understand what it meant, but I finally do,

Thanks mom.

Freedom. By Ugnė Urbonaitė

Freedom for me is when I can say and think what I want. Also I can say my opinion for other people and they accept it. Freedom is when I can visit other countries, go in clubs. When I can learn new languages. When I can spend time with friends where we want. When I can visit exhibitions by authors from other countries, fairs, museums. When I can celebrate celebrations with my family. When I can be myself and don‘t be constrained. When I can watch movies at the cinema and at home. When I can listen to different music by different singers and composers.

But it is not easy to be free. Freedom brings responsibility. Brave Lithuanians fought for their freedom many times in history. Some of people do not value freedom, but Lithuanians are patriots, because they know price of freedom. And if someone asks them „Will you fight for freedom again?“, they of course answer „YES!!!“. And I will fight for freedom too.

What is Freedom to me? By Klemensas

To me freedom is that I can choose, how I want to live, where I want to study. Freedom lets you think freely and lets you say your opinion freely. People in free Lithuania can choose their government, vote for laws. When Lithuania was a part of Soviet Union, people couldn’t choose anything, all the things were how the government said. Life was really hard during the occupation. But clever and brave Lithuanian people won freedom for our country.

Nowadays people always talk that Lithuania is a bad country, the salaries are low and they are emigrating to other countries. But they need to reconsider and start creating business here, in Lithuania. If they started creating business here, economy would improve and life in Lithuania would be better. With freedom comes responsibility, and people need to think what they are voting for. If you make a bad decision, it can affect your life in the country. So you need to think what are you choosing, is it good for your country or is it bad ?

Freedom is a possibility to travel to any country in the world. However, I think that people should first get to know their own country. Knowing your history and your country is very important. People should start working together and make Lithuania a better country for all of us.

I think that freedom is very important to every country, because a free man is a happy man. So we have to defend, cherish our country and our freedom.

Freedom- what is it? By Vytis

If you ask a young child what freedom is he will probably give you not a serious answer like “Eating as many chocolate cookies as you wish”. Everyone will give you a different answer based on their personal life and guess what? Everyone is correct! Ok but I’m here to say something more serious than freedom of eating cookies. There are a few types of freedom- freedom of speech, freedom of acting, freedom of choice.

Maybe it is easier living under someone’s control than being free and having to think what clever are you doing tomorrow. It is way easier writing when your teacher gives you a specific topic than thinking on your own, so if someone asks me if I want to be free as a bird I would say no, of course I would love to sleep for a few extra hours now and then but not free as doing something stupid that suddenly pops in your head.

Freedom is one of the most important things in this world, people fight for freedom, people die for freedom because being free means being happy.

Do you ever think about the meaning of freedom? By Gustas Tolvaišas

Do you ever think about the meaning of freedom?

To me, freedom is to be able to choose what I want and not what the top authorities want me to do. It also means to do it whenever I want, so I could have time for fantastic and clever ideas. If I wouldn’t have freedom it would be a boring and stressful life that I have no control over. And one last thing, freedom to me is being to do many things without being forced into doing into doing other things. No freedom would mean that I would have to let the top authorities into my house and they would be able to do anything with it, maybe even sell it to someone else. Without freedom I would be controlled by everything. In summary, we are lucky to be in a society of freedom.

WHAT DOES FREEDOM MEAN TO ME?

➡ https://thevoice.space/category/the-freedom/ 💡 💡 💡

WHAT DOES FREEDOM MEAN TO ME?

Freedom for me is the ability to be yourself, to do what you want to do, to say what you want to.

A great example is the reason why I am writing this article. When a city, a town or a country gets taken over, the things you can do are limited… You have to live like a person from the enemy’s country. They try to make you different.

That’s exactly why freedom is so important! Imagine speaking a different language. There would no longer be Lithuania or wherever you live. That makes you a different person! That isn’t fair! Because you weren’t asking anyone for a “makeover”, you didn’t want anything to change!

Freedom lets you live, experience things YOUR way, not the way someone wants you to. And technically you are still you, but you actually belong to someone.

Something like this expression:

Vilnius is ours, but we are Russia‘s .

I guess what I am trying to say is that freedom is us. There wouldn‘t be us if there weren‘t freedom.

So again, what DOES freedom mean to me?

MYSELF, freedom to me means me. Like a math equation…

Freedom = me.

That’s me, my achievements, my possibilities, my life.

Which would be the explanation to this whole article… Freedom. Equals. Me.
